No, this is a 2-in-1 paint and does not require a separate primer, even on bare wood.
Generally, 2 coats are recommended. However, for bare wood, or if the wood grain is still visible, a third coat may be necessary for full protection.
The paint is dry to the touch in 1 hour, and can be recoated after 1 hour. The final coat becomes weatherproof in 1 hour.
