Initial Setup
Setting up your iMac is straightforward:
- Unpack: Carefully remove the iMac from its packaging and place it on a stable, flat surface.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cord into the back of the iMac and then into a wall outlet.
- Connect Peripherals: Connect your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or other preferred input devices. These typically connect wirelessly, but you may need to use a Lightning to USB-C cable for initial pairing and charging.
- Power On: Press the power button located on the back of the iMac (usually on the lower left side when facing the screen).
- macOS Setup Assistant: Follow the on-screen instructions to configure macOS, connect to Wi-Fi, create a user account, and transfer data if you have a previous Mac.

- Operating System: Runs on macOS, ensuring compatibility with a vast ecosystem of Apple and third-party software, including productivity apps, creative suites, and entertainment.
- Peripherals: Compatible with a wide range of USB-C, Thunderbolt, and Bluetooth accessories, including external displays, hard drives, printers, and audio devices.
- Network: Supports Wi-Fi 6E for fast wireless connectivity and Gigabit Ethernet (via an optional adapter for some configurations) for wired networks.
Product Care
Proper care ensures your iMac remains in optimal condition:
- Cleaning the Display: Use a soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber is ideal) lightly dampened with water. Do NOT use window cleaners, household cleaning sprays, or harsh chemicals. Gently wipe the screen in one direction.
- Cleaning the Enclosure: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down the aluminum enclosure. Again, avoid harsh cleaning agents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the vents on the back and bottom of the iMac are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow and cooling.
- Software Updates: Regularly install macOS updates to ensure security, performance improvements, and compatibility with new software.
- Power Protection: Consider using a surge protector to safeguard your iMac from electrical fluctuations.
