A fan-favorite collaboration, the Comme des Garçons PLAY Chuck 70 sneaker puts a playful spin on a classic. Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, known for her prolific work with Comme des Garçons, has a history of notable sneaker collaborations. Her partnership with Converse has resulted in various iterations of the Chuck Taylor, particularly with her sub-label Comme des Garçons PLAY. The initial collaboration in 2009 saw a minimalist modification of the original design. In 2015, Kawakubo used the All Star Chuck 70s as a base, creating a shoe so popular it has been re-released annually. The most distinctive feature of the Comme des Garçons PLAY line is its heart and eyes logo, designed by Filip Pagowski. While the 2009 version was minimalist, subsequent releases, starting in 2015, have moved away from this philosophy. The Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star 70s Hi Comme des Garçons PLAY retains the classic 70s Chuck Taylor aesthetic, featuring a high-top collar for ankle support, a black upper, white laces, and a white sole and toe cap. This specific iteration, the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star 70s Hi Comme des Garçons PLAY Black, was released in March 2019 with a retail price of $125.
