Originally conceived in 1930, the Bestlite BL9 pendant light is part of English designer Robert Dudley Best's acclaimed Bestlite collection. Loved by designers, architects and design aficionados alike, the light is held in permanent collections at both the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London and is considered as the first example of the Bauhaus movement in British design. Refined and sophisticated, the pendant produces a downward directed light and pleasant, welcoming glow, ideal for illuminating dining tables, kitchen islands and desks. The Bestlite BL9 pendant light is an iconic and incredibly versatile choice that will beautifully complement modern and contemporary homes. Available in a range of refined metallic finishes. The shade in polished brass gives BL9 a noble and warm character. Robert Dudley Best (1892-1984) was inspired by greats of the Bauhaus, such as Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. The Bestlite series began with the BL1 flexible table lamp; it was initially used as a workshop lamp and by the Royal Air Force until it became known as Winston Churchill's desk lamp. In 2004 the Danish company Gubi - known for the production of high-quality furniture and lighting - took over the production according to the original designs.
