The elegant Maluma pendant light takes its form and name from the Japanese word, Malu, meaning round and complete. A fusion of frosted glass and smooth curves, the pendant features a hand-blown glass shade and matching anodised aluminium suspension and canopy. Available in three delicate colours. This pendant lamp by designer Fumie Shibata, launched in 2021, acts as an eye-catcher in the room when switched on or off, as it always retains its colour. The shade is made of hand-blown frosted glass, which has been shaped in soft curves to form a decorative shade that allows the light from the lamp used to diffuse into the room all around, and also emits light directly and functionally through the glass, which is open at the bottom. Maluma™ is just one example of the understated serenity of Fumie Shibata's designs, which combine form and function in a way that blends almost unnoticed into everyday life. Fumie Shibata is a Japanese product designer whose focus is on industrial design. She studied at Musashino Art University and subsequently worked at Toshiba. In 1994, she founded her own design studio, Studio S. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Mainichi Award, the Good Design Award, the Red Dot Award and the iF Gold Award. Since 2014 she has been teaching as a professor at Musashino Art University and since 2015 she has been vice chair of the Good Design Award committee.
