The visually stunning 24 Karat Blau, by Ingo Maurer, is a magnificent pendant featuring luxurious gold leaf sealed in plastic. The 24 Karat Blau M is modular and can be multiplied to create a larger fixture. This is a physical masterpiece - a designer hanging light that emits a mysterious, captivating light that is both golden and blue simultaneously. This unique effect is achieved by arranging four handmade acrylic glass panels in a square formation, with real gold leaf, beaten wafer-thin, inserted into the acrylic. The 1/10,000 mm thin gold leaf corresponds to 1,000 atomic layers. Physics plays a role here: the light produced inside shines out between the molecules as short-wave blue light, while yellow gold light is reflected inwards, creating the unique combination of blue light outwards and golden light towards the center. The external shape can be altered by attaching the panels to the central crossed rods in various configurations, allowing for perfect symmetry or deliberate asymmetry.
