Nike Shox technology is a mechanical cushioning system featuring resilient, flexible columns and moderator plates, primarily in the heel. These columns compress upon impact and then rebound, providing responsive cushioning and absorbing footfall shock.

While originally designed with athletic inspiration, the Shox R4 is generally considered a lifestyle sneaker. Its cushioning is comfortable for walking and everyday wear, but for dedicated or high-performance running, modern running shoes with specialized foam technologies are usually recommended.

The upper is constructed from a combination of synthetic and textile materials, offering both durability and breathability. The outsole is made of rubber with a modified circular Waffle pattern for traction, and it includes a foam midsole for additional cushioning.

For the upper, wipe gently with a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Use a soft brush for the rubber outsole. Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Avoid machine washing or drying.

Nike sizing is generally consistent across models. It is recommended to select your usual Nike shoe size for the Shox R4. If you are unsure, referring to Nike's official size guide and measuring your foot is always a good practice.

The rubber outsole provides good traction on various surfaces, including wet ones, but the synthetic and textile upper is not fully waterproof. For heavy rain, prolonged exposure to wet conditions, or very slippery surfaces, exercise caution as the shoes are not designed as waterproof footwear.

This can sometimes occur due to friction between the insole and the shoe's interior, or within the Shox columns. Try removing the insole, cleaning the area underneath, and reinserting it. If the squeak persists, a small amount of baby powder under the insole can sometimes help. For external squeaks from the Shox columns, ensure they are free of debris.

Check the rubber outsole for any embedded dirt, mud, or small stones. Clean the circular Waffle pattern thoroughly with a stiff brush and water to restore optimal grip. Ensure the sole is completely dry before wearing.

While the shoes feature laser perforations for breathability, factors like sock material, ambient temperature, and activity level can influence comfort. Try wearing moisture-wicking socks. Ensure the perforations are not blocked by dirt or debris. For prolonged heavy activity in hot weather, these might not be the most ventilated option.

Like many new shoes, the Shox R4 may require a short break-in period. Wear them for shorter durations initially to allow the materials to adapt to your foot shape. Ensure you have the correct size; an incorrect size can lead to discomfort.
