FAQs

How long does Sugru take to cure?

Sugru typically cures within 12-24 hours at room temperature. Thicker applications may take longer, up to 48 hours for substantial builds.

Can Sugru be removed after it cures?

Once Sugru has cured into a durable silicone rubber, it is permanent and very difficult to remove. It is designed for lasting repairs.

Is Sugru waterproof?

Yes, Sugru is waterproof once fully cured, making it suitable for repairs in kitchens, bathrooms, and even some outdoor applications where exposure to moisture is expected.

What is the temperature range Sugru can withstand?

Sugru is temperature-resistant and performs well in temperatures ranging from -60°C to 180°C (-76°F to 356°F).

Can I use Sugru on fabrics?

Sugru is primarily designed for rigid surfaces. While it may adhere to some fabrics, it's not ideal for flexible textiles and might crack or peel over time.

How long is Sugru good for once opened?

Once opened, Sugru should be used within 10-15 minutes as it begins to cure when exposed to air. Any unused, unmixed Sugru can be resealed in its original packaging, but its shelf life is significantly reduced.

Is Sugru safe for food contact?

Sugru is non-toxic, but it is not certified for direct food contact applications. It's best to avoid using it on items that regularly come into contact with food.

Troubleshooting

Sugru not curing properly

Ensure the two components were kneaded thoroughly until a uniform color was achieved. Check that the ambient temperature is within the recommended range (ideally room temperature, 15-30°C). Curing time depends on thickness; thicker applications take longer.

Sugru peeling off after curing

The surface may not have been clean or dry enough before application. For best results, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry completely before applying Sugru.

Sugru is too sticky to handle

Work relatively quickly after kneading. If it becomes too sticky, slightly dampen your fingers with water (not too much) or use a tool to help shape it. Ensure the area you are working in is not excessively humid.

Unopened Sugru packet has hardened

This can occur if the packet was exposed to high temperatures or humidity before opening. Unfortunately, hardened Sugru cannot be reformed.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Open the Sugru packet and knead the two components together until a uniform colour is achieved. This typically takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Apply the moulded Sugru to the clean surface requiring repair or modification.
  3. Shape the Sugru to your desired form.
  4. Allow Sugru to cure fully. Curing time varies depending on thickness, usually 12-24 hours at room temperature.

Compatibility: Sugru adheres well to a wide variety of non-porous and some porous surfaces, including plastic, ceramic, glass, metal, wood, and concrete. It is not recommended for use on wet surfaces or for applications that will be submerged in water long-term.

Care: Once Sugru has cured, it can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners, which may damage the cured silicone.
