Omni-Shield™ is Columbia's advanced repellency technology that resists liquids from absorbing into the fabric. It helps you stay clean and dry by repelling water and stains, making the garment quick-drying.

While the shorts are water-repellent and quick-drying, they are designed for land-based activities. For dedicated swimming or extensive water sports, specific swimwear would be more appropriate. They can handle splashes and light rain, but are not intended to be fully submerged for extended periods, especially the cotton variants.

The material can vary depending on the specific variant. Some Mountaindale Cargo Shorts are made from Cotton, while others are made from Nylon. Both feature Omni-Shield™ technology. Nylon variants will generally offer superior quick-drying performance compared to cotton variants.

Generally, due to their active wear nature and material properties, ironing is often not necessary. If desired, you can iron on a low setting, but avoid ironing directly over any printed logos to prevent damage.

To maintain the Omni-Shield™ repellency, always wash according to the care label, avoiding fabric softeners. Tumble drying on a low heat setting can help reactivate the finish. For long-term restoration, a DWR re-treatment spray designed for technical apparel can be used.

Columbia generally designs its apparel to be true to size with a 'regular fit.' However, it's always recommended to consult Columbia's official size guide and measure yourself to ensure the best fit, especially with an elasticated waistband and built-in belt offering some flexibility.

Ensure you are washing according to care instructions, avoiding fabric softeners. Tumble dry on low heat to reactivate the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish. If repellency is still poor, consider applying a DWR re-treatment spray.

Verify your size against Columbia's official size chart. The elasticated waistband and built-in belt offer some adjustability, but an incorrect base size will affect overall comfort. Ensure the belt is properly cinched or loosened.

Note that material composition can vary (Cotton vs. Nylon variants exist). Cotton versions will naturally dry slower than Nylon, even with Omni-Shield. For optimal quick-drying performance, ensure the garment is not oversaturated and that airflow is adequate during wear.

Ensure no fabric is caught in the zipper teeth. Gently try to work the zipper back and forth. If the issue persists, a small amount of graphite from a pencil or a specialized zipper lubricant can help, applied sparingly.
