FAQs

What is the weight capacity of one SkiSki Leg?

Each SkiSki Leg is designed to support a maximum of 300kg when properly installed.

Do I need to treat the raw steel finish?

Treatment is optional. The raw steel is designed to be finished by the user (e.g., painted, varnished) or left untreated to develop a natural rust patina for an industrial look.

What does the Ski-Glide technology do?

The Ski-Glide technology uses polymer discs on the base of the legs to reduce friction, allowing furniture to glide smoothly across floors and protecting them from scratches.

Are screws included with the legs?

Yes, each set includes a FREE screw pack containing 16 x 20mm screws suitable for attaching the heavy-duty base of the hairpin legs.

Can these legs be used on carpet?

While the protector feet and polymer discs help on hard surfaces, using them on thick carpet may impede the gliding feature. They are best suited for smooth, hard flooring.

How many legs are in a set?

Each product listing typically refers to a set of 4 x SkiSki Legs, unless otherwise specified.

What is the steel thickness of the legs?

The steel thickness for these specific SkiSki Legs is 12mm.

Troubleshooting

Legs are wobbly after installation.

Ensure all screws are fully tightened into the furniture base. Check that the furniture surface is flat and the legs are making even contact with the floor.

Furniture does not glide smoothly.

Confirm that the polymer discs are correctly attached to the base of the legs. Ensure there are no obstructions or debris on the discs or the floor surface. Check if the weight limit (300kg) is exceeded.

Rusting is occurring faster than desired.

If an industrial rust look is intended, this is normal. If rust is undesirable, ensure the raw steel is properly treated with a sealant or paint as per manufacturer instructions.

Protector feet are difficult to attach.

Gently push the protector feet onto the bottom of the legs. If resistance is met, ensure the leg base is clean and try wiggling the foot slightly as you push.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Effortless furniture movement with Ski-Glide technology.

  • Robust and durable construction suitable for heavy loads.
  • High degree of customization with various sizes, designs, and finishes.
  • Unique aesthetic potential with the raw steel finish.
  • All necessary hardware (screws) included for installation.

Cons

  • Raw steel finish requires user treatment or will naturally rust, which may not be desired.
  • Wide variety of options could lead to decision paralysis.
  • The 'ski-glide' aspect is primarily for initial placement or occasional movement, not for frequent repositioning of heavy furniture.
  • The 12mm steel thickness, while strong, adds weight to the legs themselves.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Prepare the Surface: Ensure the surface of your furniture piece is clean and free of debris.

  3. Add Protectors: Clip the included protector feet onto the bottom of each leg.
  4. Position Furniture: Gently slide the furniture into its desired location, utilizing the Ski-Glide polymer discs.

Compatibility:

  • The raw steel finish is designed to be finished by the user with paint, varnish, or left untreated.
  • Suitable for various floor types when used with the included protector feet and polymer discs.

Care:

  • Raw Steel (Untreated): If left untreated, the legs will develop a natural rust patina over time. This is an intended feature for an industrial aesthetic. No specific cleaning is required, but avoid excessive moisture.
  • Raw Steel (Treated): For a lasting finish, clean the legs with a degreaser, apply your chosen sealant, paint, or varnish according to the product manufacturer's instructions.
  • Protector Feet & Discs: Wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed.
