Full details

The U-POL Clear Coat Lacquer Kit is a professional-grade 2K HS acrylic clearcoat system designed for automotive refinishers and body shop technicians who demand high-gloss results and rapid curing times. It delivers a durable, UV-resistant, and chemically resilient finish that enhances the longevity of vehicle paint jobs; however, due to the fast-acting nature of the included S2031 hardener, users must be prepared for a shorter pot life during application.

FAQs

Can I use a different hardener with the S2080 clear?

While other U-POL hardeners exist, this kit is specifically balanced with the S2031 for extra-fast curing. Mixing other grades may alter the drying time or durability.

What is the shelf life of the mixed product?

Once the S2080 and S2031 are mixed, the pot life is limited due to the extra-fast hardener. You should plan to spray the mixture within the time specified on the technical documentation provided with your batch.

Does this product require a reducer?

The S2080/S2031 system is a high-solid formulation. Check the technical data sheet for your specific region, as some climate-dependent thinning may be permitted but is often not required.

Is this safe for home use?

This is a professional 2K product containing isocyanates. It should only be used in a professional spray booth with adequate ventilation and proper respiratory protection.

How long should I wait before polishing?

Due to the fast-acting nature of the S2031, the clearcoat cures rapidly, but wait at least 24 hours to ensure full cross-linking before performing any aggressive buffing or polishing.

Troubleshooting

Finish appears dull or has orange peel

Verify the spray gun pressure settings and ensure the overlap during application is correct; adjust thinning if the technical data sheet guidelines allow.

Clearcoat is drying too fast in the gun

You are exceeding the pot life. Mix smaller batches or ensure your workspace temperature is controlled and cooler during application.

Poor adhesion or flaking

Ensure the basecoat was properly degreased and that you have respected the recommended flash-off times between coats.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High-gloss finish with excellent depth
  • Fast drying times ideal for spot repairs
  • Superior UV and chemical resistance
  • Reliable and consistent 2:1 mixing ratio

Cons

  • Short pot life due to the extra-fast hardener
  • Requires professional-grade spraying equipment
  • Not suitable for large surface areas in high ambient temperatures

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure a successful finish, always mix the S2080 and S2031 components in a clean, dry container using a mixing stick to ensure complete integration of the hardener. Because this is a 2K (two-component) system, the chemical reaction begins immediately upon mixing. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator with organic vapor cartridges, nitrile gloves, and eye protection. After application, clean your spray equipment immediately using a suitable lacquer thinner, as the fast-acting nature of this product can cause it to harden inside the gun nozzle and air cap if left sitting.
