Japanese Maples are renowned for their dramatic autumn leaf colour and year-round visual appeal. The Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', often considered one of the finest Maples, can be cultivated as either a substantial deciduous shrub or a small tree. It boasts vibrant coral-red young branches adorned with five-lobed leaves that emerge a pinkish-yellow, mature to green in summer, and transform into a golden hue in autumn. During winter, after leaf fall, the new red shoots offer a striking contrast, glistening beautifully in the sunlight. As the plant matures, its stems develop an even more intense red coloration. This low-maintenance variety is a truly sensational specimen plant, recognised with a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding garden performance. It typically reaches a height of 8m (26') with a spread of 4m (13'). Please note that plant size can vary seasonally, and we specify by pot size. Delivery is restricted to the United Kingdom. The plant thrives in Sun or Semi-Shade, Dappled Shade, reaching up to 800cm in height and 400cm in spread when fully established. It flowers from April to May and is supplied as one 10.5cm potted plant, complete with growing and care instructions. Images are for illustrative purposes of mature plants and may vary due to growing conditions and seasonal changes, such as deciduous plants losing leaves in colder months.
