This 'Save the Ocean' Special Edition, inspired by the ice of Antarctica, expresses the accumulation of time - linking the Antarctic history of Seiko diver's watches with the time it takes for a glacier to form into its beautiful structure. The dial pattern and colour express the natural formations and pressure the glacier underwent during its long cooling period. Glaciers formed during the ice age, approximately 150 to 3 million years ago. Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ These timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable within extreme or everyday environments, for experts, sports lovers and adventure seekers alike. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards. Seiko donates a portion of proceeds from Save The Ocean models to the PADI Aware Foundation's Marine Debris programme, the world's largest underwater clean-up initiative. The Seiko Propsex Save The Ocean Glacier 1965 Re-Interpretation SPB297J1 is housed in a 42mm wide and 12.5mm tall stainless steel case. A black insert unidirectional rotating bezel sits on top of the case, it exhibits a silver 60-minute count-up scale and a luminescent pip. The grooved walls of the bezel ensure that it always remains easily operable. The bevelled edges of the case have been treated to a polished finish, which bestows the case with a sharp, well-defined sharp profile. A screw-down crown is located at 3 o’clock on the side of the case. Curved sapphire crystal glass offers optimum durability and scratch-resistance. It has been treated with an anti-reflective coating, which prevents the dial from becoming unreadable when exposed to glare from the sun. The textured glacial blue dial exhibits a classic, straight-forward design that ensures that the dial always remains readable. Baton-style hour markers and a silver baton-style handset are filled with Seiko’s LumiBrite material which enables the dial to be read in the dark. A white 60-minute track meanders around the edge of the dial, allowing for for a more accurate reading of the time. A date-aperture is located at 3 o’clock, whilst the Seiko logo is presented in white beneath the 12 o’clock marker. The SPB297J1 is presented on an oyster-style 3-link stainless steel bracelet that has been treated to a brushed finish. It features a three-fold clasp with secure lock and a push button release with a diver extender. Seiko’s 6R35 calibre automatic movement powers this timepiece, it offers an accuracy of +15/-25 seconds per day and a power reserve of 70 hours when fully charged. It is water resistant to 200 metres, which means it can be worn when diving.
