This Opuntia Microdasys, commonly known as Bunny Ears Cactus, features big, fleshy segments that resemble bunny ears. It thrives in bright, indirect light and requires specialist cactus compost. This plant grows slowly and is tender, meaning it is suitable for indoor environments only. It is currently approximately 40cm tall, including its pot. For optimal fit, a 20cm pot cover is recommended. As the cactus grows, it forms a striking silhouette with segments that turn from reddish to green and become dotted with small clusters of short prickles. Under ideal conditions, creamy yellow flowers may appear on mature segments. The plant is shipped in a standard black plastic pot, but can be easily repotted into a larger container using cacti compost. For home care, place it in a bright location. Water during spring and summer when the compost feels dry, ensuring no waterlogging. Reduce watering in autumn and winter, but keep the compost slightly moist. Avoid humid environments like bathrooms or steamy kitchens. Provide fresh air by opening a window or door during warmer months. Repotting every one to two years into a slightly larger pot with cacti compost is advised. Use folded newspaper or thorn-proof gloves when handling to protect against spines.
