The classic and electrifying Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum is a truly spectacular Japanese maple! This dramatic open habit plant provides flaming burgundy purple-red autumnal coloured leaves that glisten under the summer sun and light up your garden through Autumn. This low maintenance hardy tree will thrive in patio pots and woodland gardens. Pot up acer plants and grow them on in cool frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them in borders outdoors. Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves. Alternatively grow acers in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter. Position: Sun or semi shade. Height Up To 400cm. Spread Up To 400cm. Supplied as 3 x 7cm pot. Delivered with growing and care instructions. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
