Gaillardia 'Goblin' is an outstanding bushy, free-flowering, short-lived perennial, which often flowers in the first year from sowing. Masses of fiery red blooms surrounded by a ring of rich flame yellow are produced on mid-height plants, which are excellent for patio pots, beds and borders. Blooming from June to September, its daisy-like flowers will provide continuous colour in your garden. Sow February to April. Germinate at 20-30C (68-86F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 14-21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
