Parsley 'Champion' is an easy-to-grow variety featuring tightly curled, rich green leaves packed with flavour. It's ideal for garnishing and enhancing the taste of soups and stews, and also perfect for planting on a kitchen windowsill. For best results, sow parsley seeds outdoors directly from March to July in a well-prepared seedbed located in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (1/2") deep, in drills spaced 30cm apart. Parsley seeds are known for their slow germination, often taking up to 28 days, especially in wet, cold conditions. Alternatively, you can sow seeds indoors or under glass from August to February to ensure a continuous supply of fresh leaves throughout the year. Sow seeds in 7.5cm (3") pots filled with free-draining seed compost, maintaining a temperature of 18-21C (65-70F) until after germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 23cm (9") apart. Gradually acclimatise the parsley plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them outside, ensuring the risk of frost has passed. This is a hardy biennial variety.
