Also known as Feather Reed Grass or Smallweed, Calamagrostis Karl Foerster is an impressive ornamental grass boasting long, slender, flat leaves that arch out from the centre, creating a fountain-like effect. These deciduous plants are well-structured and ideal for adding height and texture interest to the garden. The fast-growing long leaves are rich green in colour and form the perfect base for the tall stems of feathery bronze flowers that bloom from July to September. These flower stems can be left in place throughout winter to create a striking year-round focal point in the garden. Feather Reed Grass is low maintenance and easy to care for. It is fully hardy, thrives in full sun or partial shade, and prefers moist but well-draining soil. Despite growing quickly, Smallweed only needs to be pruned annually in early spring to allow new growth to emerge. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.
