The simple design consists of nothing more than a bent lacquered steel tube, with an archetypal glass lampshade at the end. Developed together with Muller Van Severen’s Hanging Lamps, they were shown at their first solo exhibition in 2011. The original design was created for an old house with no socket in the ceiling for a light, granting the need for wall mounted light. Ceiling Lamp No.2 has a curved 90-degree bend, with a smaller 60cm drop from the wall. The light looks excellent placed in a living, dining room, study, or fixed above a workspace, counter, or dining table. The playful and colorful steel rods are just as striking alone as they are combined with other Valerie Objects Ceiling, Hanging Wall, or Floor lamps. Valerie Objects Pendant Black Metal. Dimensions: H 60 x W 40 cm - Lampshade: Ø 25 cm - Cable: L 200 cm max. Known as Muller Van Severen, Flemish design duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen work at the intersection of art and design. They are one of today's hottest names. From galleries and museums to collectors, design enthusiasts, and publishers, their minimalist, colorful furniture is timeless and joyful. Their success began with this collection of lamps. The first prototypes were presented at Muller Van Severen's very first solo exhibition in 2011. With their linear design, Pendant Ceiling Lamps resemble pencil strokes traced in the air: like drawings materialized in space. These lamps draw a sober, colorful line through the décor. At the end of this line is a simple white Glass Lampshade, an identical reproduction of one the designers had originally unearthed at a flea market. It's a fantastic Lampshade: perfectly neutral. Fortunately, we found a company capable of producing it. Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, ex-sculptor and ex-photographer respectively, infuse each of their pieces with a touch of poetry. Hannes explains: Design is about function. We come from the visual arts. So we simply try to create sculptural furniture in space. Art or design, creation is done in the same way and with the same satisfaction. Poetry is possible even in the industrial world, concludes Fien. The Belgian label Valérie Objects uses its uncompromising eye to find designers in tune with its philosophy, which is to create everyday objects likely to develop emotion and attachment, far from a stereotyped decor that lacks depth. Veerle Wenes, gallerist and co-founder of Valerie Objects: Minimal objects require maximum work.
