These low-maintenance plants flower in their first year, offering an eye-catching display in borders and containers from summer through autumn. To sow, use lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays, covering seeds with a very light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Seal the container in a polythene bag and maintain a temperature between 18-20C (65-68F). Avoid excluding light after sowing as it aids germination. Keep the compost surface moist but not waterlogged; germination typically takes 21-30 days and can be erratic. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Note: This Primula does not require pre-chilling. Sow from January to March for first-year flowering. Plant out once the plants are well-grown, spaced 20-30cm (8-12in) apart. For optimal results, plant in partial shade with humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. The plant reaches a height and spread of up to 30cm when fully established. Supplied as 1x Primula capitata 'Noverna Deep Blue' seed packet (approx. 25 seeds) with T&M's cultural instructions. Flowering period is May to September. Images are for guidance only; actual results may vary based on growing conditions and seasonality.
