Experience the intense heat of the 'Scotch Bonnet Red' chilli pepper, a variety not for the faint-hearted! This Habanero-type chilli delivers atomic levels of heat, rated at an eye-watering 400,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. With a fruity yet volcanic flavour, the 6cm long chillies ripen from lime green through orange to deep red, with a characteristic wrinkled finish. Early to crop and high-yielding, this is a top performer for home growers looking for serious spice. How to Grow: - Sow seeds on moist, well-drained compost and lightly cover. - Keep at 18–20°C with light for germination. - Transplant to 7.5cm pots once large enough, then grow on in containers, grow bags, or borders after the last frost. - Gradually acclimatise outdoor plants. Aftercare: - Water consistently and feed with a high-potash fertiliser weekly from first fruit set. - Stake tall plants and mulch to retain moisture. - In greenhouses, maintain humidity by damping down. - Harvest chillies singly or hang the whole plant upside down when fully fruited. Plants reach up to 90cm (36") in height with a 45cm (18") spread. Ideal for adding explosive heat to your favourite dishes, fresh or dried. Grow in a greenhouse or a hot, sheltered garden spot.
