Product Information

Full details

The Rowlinson Log Roll is an ideal landscaping solution for homeowners and gardeners looking to create clean, professional-looking garden borders, pathways, and driveway edges. These rolls provide a structured, contemporary charcoal grey aesthetic that helps contain mulch or gravel while defining flower beds. While they offer excellent flexibility for curved layouts, users should note that the 15cm height is intended for low-profile edging rather than structural retaining wall projects.

FAQs

What is the total length of the pack?

The pack contains two rolls, each measuring 1.2 meters, for a total of 2.4 meters.

Are these suitable for retaining walls?

No, these are decorative garden edgings and are not designed to support significant earth pressure or serve as structural retaining walls.

Can I cut the rolls to size?

Yes, the wire connecting the logs can be cut using heavy-duty wire cutters to shorten the length of the roll.

How deep should I bury the roll?

For best stability, burying the bottom 3cm to 5cm of the roll is recommended.

Is the charcoal grey finish weather-resistant?

Yes, the product is finished to handle outdoor conditions, though like all exterior wood, it may fade slightly over several years of intense UV exposure.

Troubleshooting

Log roll is leaning or falling over.

The trench is likely too shallow. Dig deeper and backfill with more soil, or use landscape stakes behind the logs for added reinforcement.

The grey finish is chipping during installation.

Use a soft-faced mallet instead of a metal hammer, and ensure the ground is cleared of large rocks before setting the logs.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Easy to install in various garden shapes due to high flexibility
  • Pressure-treated timber offers reliable protection against decay
  • Contemporary charcoal grey finish matches modern garden designs
  • Pack of two offers immediate coverage for small landscaping projects

Cons

  • Limited to low-profile edging; not suitable for tall retaining walls
  • Requires manual ground preparation for a level finish
  • Charcoal finish may require periodic touch-ups if scratched during installation

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, clear the area of weeds and loose debris. Use a spade to create a shallow trench the width of the log roll. Place the roll into the trench and backfill with soil or sand on both sides, tamping it down firmly to secure the logs upright. Because the product is pressure treated, it is already protected; however, we recommend applying a wood preservative if you perform any cuts to the timber to expose raw ends. Keep the logs away from standing water to prolong the life of the wood, and periodically check the stability of the logs after heavy frost or significant rainfall.
