The Sierra is a mid-size passenger car that debuted as the flagship model of European Ford in 1982. Its styling was ahead of its time, with a rounded shape designed for aerodynamic performance, but its mechanism was characterized by its conventional rear-wheel drive, while the mainstream drive system for passenger cars at the time was front-wheel drive. The Sierra itself is not well-known in Japan, but its high-performance version, the RS Cosworth, an homologation model to meet the Group A category set by the FIA, is highly recognized. The reason is that the RS Cosworth was the strongest competitor until the R32 GT-R took over the Group A touring car races in Japan, and many racing fans will remember the scene where Japanese cars were chasing the Sierra RS Cosworth!
