Left untreated, vine weevil grubs will feed on your plant roots causing damage. Vine weevil nematodes (Steinernema kraussei) target vine weevil larvae living in soil around plant roots. Each treatment introduces microscopic transparent worms that enter the larva and stop further damage before it begins. This natural approach helps manage infestations during active pest stages. Use vine weevil nematodes in late spring and early autumn when larvae are most active. Apply to pots and open ground from March to May and again from August to October. Autumn treatments are often more successful because the larvae are younger and have caused less harm to plants. Once added to moist soil above 5ºC, the nematodes move through the soil and locate vine weevil larvae. They feed and reproduce inside the larvae, bringing this pest stage to an end. For high levels of infestation, a second application can improve results and break the pest life cycle. Apply directly to the soil around plant roots where larvae feed. When used under cover, nematodes can be applied at any time as long as the soil remains above 5ºC. For extra protection, band pots with insect barrier glue to help stop adult pests from climbing in and laying eggs. Each pack includes simple instructions and can be applied with a watering can or nematode applicator. Keep soil moist before and after application to support nematode activity. The pack usually has an expiry date of around two weeks. Delivery is completely free when just ordering nematodes. Should you purchase any other items then our standard delivery charge will apply. Please note nematodes are live material and cannot be returned. They will usually have an expiry date of around two weeks. The effectiveness can sometimes vary due to external factors such as soil moisture and temperature. Key Features Contains Steinernema kraussei nematodes to control vine weevil larvae in soil. They remain active for several weeks as long as the soil stays moist and above 5ºC, allowing them to move and work effectively. Can vine weevil nematodes be used with other plant feeds? Yes, they can be used alongside most plant feeds provided the soil is kept moist during application. Are vine weevil nematodes safe for pets? Yes, they are naturally present in soil and pose no risk to pets, wildlife, or people. Can vine weevil nematodes be used on young plants? Yes, they are suitable for young plants as they only target vine weevil larvae in the soil, not plant roots or shoots. How soon can plants be watered after applying vine weevil nematodes? You can water lightly after application to maintain moist conditions, which helps the nematodes move through the soil. Do vine weevil nematodes need special storage? Store in a refrigerator and use before the expiry date to ensure they remain active. Effective Vine Weevil Control: Harness the power of nematodes to eliminate vine weevil larvae and protect your precious plants. Targeted Treatment: Specifically designed to control larvae and pupae in gardens and allotments, safeguarding your winter and summer bedding. Eco-Friendly Solution: Nematodes are a natural solution that targets vine weevils without harming beneficial insects or the environment. Introducing Nemasys Vine Weevil Control, your reliable ally in protecting beloved plants like clematis from the damaging effects of vine weevils. These larvae are notorious for attacking plant root systems from late summer through spring, often going unnoticed until it's too late. By using nematodes, you can effectively disrupt their lifecycle: Grubs stop feeding within 3 days of infection. They are killed within 2-4 weeks, depending on temperature. Nematodes complete their lifecycle within the grub and re-enter the soil to seek out additional larvae. For best results, apply Nemasys twice a year—in spring and autumn—to break the lifecycle of vine weevils and maintain the health of your plants. Ensure that the soil temperature is 5ºC (40ºF) or higher for optimal effectiveness. Nematodes can survive occasional frosts and will reactivate as temperatures rise. Store them refrigerated upon delivery and apply by the date shown on the packaging for maximum efficacy. Even if applied slightly after the use-by date, they will still be effective if kept cold.
