Viola hybrida 'Miniola Heart Purple' are pretty pansies with bright bicolour blooms featuring purple with contrasting golden, whiskered faces. These small flowers are produced in profusion above neat, branching stems and dark green foliage, making them versatile for hanging baskets, containers, beds, and borders. Sow seeds from spring to autumn on good seed compost and gently firm down. Spring sowings will provide flowers during early summer, while summer and autumn sowings will bloom the following winter or spring. For germination, place the seed tray in a propagator at 15-20C (59-68F) or seal in a polythene bag, keeping the soil damp but not wet. Avoid high temperatures, as this can prevent germination. Light aids germination, which usually takes 14-21 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them in cooler conditions until ready for outdoor planting. After plants are well-grown and the risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant into well-drained soil in baskets and containers outdoors in full sun or semi-shade. Overwinter autumn sowings in a cold frame, then plant out the following spring.
