With its massive crown, it is a great shade provider, which can be found on the side of the road or in parks. After six to eight years, the Flamboyant forms scarlet and orange flowers that shine like a sea of flames, creating a spectacular sight. Its long, double-pinnate leaves consist of thousands of rounded auricles, and the seed pods, which can be up to 40 cm long, are also remarkable. The Flamboyant can be easily cultivated as a pot plant. The Caribbean Islands and Madagascar, where the Flamboyant was first recognized in 1824 by the Dutch botanist Wenceslaus Bojer, are its original habitat. Seed propagation indoors is possible throughout the year. To increase germination, you should put the seeds in warm water overnight to prepare them. Then plant the seeds about 1 cm deep in moist potting soil and cover the seed container with clear film to prevent the soil from drying out. Don't forget to drill a few holes in the clear film and remove it completely for about 2 hours every other or third day. This way you avoid mold formation on your potting soil. Place the seed container in a bright and warm place with a temperature between 20°C and 25° Celsius and keep the soil moist but not wet. Germination takes about two to four weeks. The small seedling should be in a bright place for the first six to twelve weeks, but protected from strong sunlight. Later, your Flamboyant can also be placed in a sunny but sheltered place. In order to grow a beautiful and dense Flamboyant, you should even prune a younger plant. From the beginning of May to the end of October, your tree needs fertilizer for pot plants every two to three weeks. Instead of opting for a larger pot or tub at the beginning, it is better to move up every two years to ensure healthy growth. Flowers form after six to eight years. The Flamboyant is not frost-resistant and should not be kept in places with temperatures below 3° Celsius. In winter it sheds its leaves and sprouts again in late spring. In order to shorten the leafless period, it is best to overwinter your plant in a bright location with a temperature of up to 20° Celsius. The brighter and warmer its place, the more water it needs accordingly.
