The Musa Basjoo, also known as the hardy banana, originates from southern China and is the most cold-hardy banana plant available. While hardy, it may die back to the stem or ground in severe frost but regrows quickly in spring. This banana plant is excellent for outdoor gardens or can be grown in pots on a patio. It can start flowering and fruiting within three years and reach heights of approximately 250cm under optimal conditions. For best growth, plant in a sunny location with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. The Musa Basjoo requires significant watering during summer (April to September), with faster growth correlating to more water, potentially up to 180cm per year. In winter, the top growth may die without protection but will resprout in spring. Potted plants can be brought indoors during winter to continue growing. Pruning is optional. Upon delivery, plants measure 55-70cm in height (including pot) and are supplied in 21cm diameter pots.
