Trofolastin Anti-Stretch Mark Cream is a moisturizing cream designed to prevent and improve the appearance of stretch marks. It is formulated with an antioxidant action and is hypoallergenic. Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a type of scarring on the skin that occurs when the dermis, the middle layer of the skin, tears. This can happen due to rapid weight gain or loss, growth spurts during puberty, pregnancy, or muscle building. Initially, stretch marks appear as red or purple lines, which fade over time to a silvery-white color, though they do not disappear completely. They commonly appear on areas that store fat, such as the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, underarms, thighs, hips, and buttocks. The dermis provides support and firmness to the skin; when it loses this support, the skin can tear, leading to stretch marks. While skin stretching itself doesn't cause marks, changes in glucocorticoid hormone levels can inhibit the synthesis of collagen and elastin fibers, compromising skin elasticity and leading to tears. Pregnancy is a common time for women to develop stretch marks due to hormonal changes, with over 75% experiencing them, typically in the sixth or seventh month of gestation. Although not scientifically proven, some moisturizing creams and oils have shown effectiveness in reducing the appearance of stretch marks during pregnancy.
