The plant develops its seed stalks from its pleasantly smelling pink or purple-lipped flowers when the flowers wither. Oregano is very important in Mediterranean cuisine and is always part of the herb mixture "Herbes de Provence". The best time for propagation is in February in a sunny place indoors, as the seed is a light germinator. Sow the seeds on moist coconut substrate or organic herbal soil and press lightly. Place the seed container in a bright and warm place with a temperature between 20°C and 25°C and keep the surface of the soil moist, but not wet. The first seedlings sprout after two to five weeks. Seedlings already raised indoors can be planted out from the beginning of May. The plant needs sun, warmth and a sheltered place to develop its full aroma. Keep the soil always moist, but not wet. Water your plant as soon as the top layer of soil has dried out. Fertilize the plant very modestly with compost or organic fertilizer for herbs, or do not fertilize at all. Re-sow the next year.
