A delightful dwarf lavender that flowers in its first year from an early sowing. Lavender 'Mini Blue' is ideal for growing in containers or as a neat evergreen edging to beds and borders. Compact, rounded plants are covered with masses of highly fragrant, deep purple flowers from mid-summer onwards, which are highly attractive to bees. Position: Full Sun. Height: Up to 30cm when fully established. Spread: Up to 35cm when fully established. Supplied as 1x packet English Lavender 'Mini Blue' (approx. 20 seeds). Flowering period: July to September. Sow seeds from February to July on the surface of moist seed compost and cover with vermiculite or finely sieved compost. Place in a propagator at 21-25°C (70-75°F) or seal in a polythene bag until germination (up to 21 days). Keep compost damp but not wet, and do not exclude light. When seedlings are large enough, transplant into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting outdoors. Plant at a distance of 25cm (10") apart on light, well-drained soil in full sun. Alternatively, grow in patio containers using soil-based compost. Lavenders dislike wet ground, especially in winter. Improve heavy soil by adding coarse grit or sharp sand before planting. Overwinter late summer sowings in a cold frame and plant out the following spring.
