These daisy-like flowers produce large, luminous blooms on sturdy, dwarf, multi-branching foliage, perfect for brightening containers and borders. Coping well in almost any garden situation, these were the longest-flowering and best double pot marigold in trials. They can also be used for cut flowers and added to salads as an edible flower. Sowing Instructions: Direct sow calendula seeds outdoors from April to May in a position with full sun and well-drained soil. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm deep, in drills spaced 30cm apart. Cover seeds with soil to exclude light and water regularly. Germination usually takes 5-10 days. Thin seedlings to 30cm apart when large enough to handle. Alternatively, sow indoors from March to April at a temperature of 18-23°C. Transplant seedlings to cooler conditions before planting outdoors. For winter or early spring flowering, sow in late summer or early autumn and grow in a cool greenhouse or conservatory.
