These microscopic transparent worms feed and multiply inside the slug, with the less common name being Phasmarhabditis californica. They are suitable for organic gardening and safe to use around children, pets, and wildlife. When applied to moist soil, the nematodes seek out slugs below ground. After entering the slug, they release bacteria that halt feeding within a few days and typically result in death within a week, leaving no residue on the surface. These slug nematodes can be used across beds, lawns, raised beds, and pots to protect young plants and crops. Starting early in the season can reduce pressure on seedlings, and maintaining even coverage ensures consistent results. Each pack covers 40 sq.m. This nematode approach specifically targets slugs in the soil ecosystem and can be used where pets and wildlife are present. Apply as part of a routine garden care plan to limit damage throughout the growing season; no special protective measures are required. For best outcomes, prepare the ground to ensure moisture reaches the root zone and avoid letting soil dry out too quickly after application. Read and follow the instructions supplied with the pack and keep products out of direct sunlight before use. Apply during suitable garden conditions. The nematodes have a shelf life and typically arrive with 1-2 weeks remaining; store them in the fridge until use, and the entire packet must be used at once. Apply when soil temperature is above 5ºC (41ºF), typically from February or March through to October, and can also be used under cover outside this window. They are safe for children, pets, and wildlife. Once applied, slugs stop feeding within a few days and usually die within a week underground. They do not harm earthworms or other garden wildlife. The nematodes enter the slug and secrete bacteria which kills it. For continued control, reapply every six weeks and start at least a week before planting.
