The SmallRig 3893 Rotating Side Handle with Trigger REC is designed for filmmakers and content creators seeking enhanced camera control and stability, especially when using compatible Sony, Canon, or Blackmagic Design cameras. Its key benefit is providing an ergonomic grip with integrated recording control and versatile mounting options, including fast charging capabilities. A potential caveat is the specific camera compatibility for REC functions and the need for an external battery for certain non-Sony models.

The REC control is compatible with select Sony Alpha 1, Alpha 7 series (III, IV, R III, R IV, R V, S III), FX3, FX30, Alpha 9 series (II, III); Canon EOS series; and Blackmagic Design BMPCC series cameras. Please check the specific model list for confirmation.
For Sony cameras using the USB-C control cable, no additional battery is needed in the handle itself. However, an L-series battery is required in the handle to use the USB-C PD power output. For REC functions on Canon or Blackmagic Design cameras, an NP-F550/570 battery is required.
The SmallRig 3893 Rotating Side Handle comes with a 2-year warranty period.
Press the quick-unlock button to release the rotation mechanism, reposition the handle to your desired angle, and then release the button to lock it in place. The rotation is stepless and offers 360° movement.
The handle attaches via a NATO clamp with an adjustable width range of 16mm - 20mm. It will fit any rig or cage equipped with a compatible NATO rail.
The USB-C PD port can power accessories that accept Power Delivery via USB-C, such as monitors, external recorders, or smartphones. This feature requires an L-series battery to be installed in the handle.
The handle is constructed from a combination of Aluminium, Copper, Silicone, Stainless steel, and Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
Verify camera compatibility. For Sony cameras, ensure the USB-C control cable is securely connected to both the handle and the camera. For Canon/Blackmagic cameras, confirm an NP-F550/570 battery is installed in the handle and the correct control cable is used.
Ensure a compatible L-series battery is correctly inserted into the handle. Check that the connected accessory is powered via USB-C and supports PD charging.
Adjust the NATO clamp width to fit snugly onto the NATO rail. Tighten the clamp screw firmly but avoid over-tightening. Ensure the NATO rail on your rig is standard and undamaged.
Check for any obstructions around the rotating joint. Ensure the quick-unlock button is fully disengaged when attempting to rotate. Wipe the mechanism with a dry cloth.
