In ancient Greece, the evergreen true myrtle was dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Myrtle branches symbolize vitality, fertility, marital happiness, and eternal love. This small shrub with fragrant dark green leaves and fragrant flowers that sprout between May and August can be easily kept in a pot or tub. Older plants even show their small edible dark blue berries after flowering. The native habitat of the myrtle is the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands, where it can be found in the form of a bush or a small tree. The seeds can be planted throughout the year, and it is best to provide the myrtle plant with water that is low in lime. During growth, Myrtle can always be cut back, but to get a rich bloom, you should consider not cutting it after May.
