The Nukeproof Horizon CL CRMO DH Pedals are engineered specifically for the extreme demands of downhill racing and aggressive trail riding. The robust cold-forged alloy body and CrMo axle ensure they can withstand significant abuse from rock strikes and hard landings, which are frequent occurrences on technical descents. The low-profile contoured chassis is strategically designed to minimize pedal hang-ups, allowing riders to clear obstacles more easily and maintain flow.
In action, the SPD-compatible dual engagement mechanism provides a consistently secure connection, directly translating to efficient power transfer during sprints, climbs, or pedaly sections of a downhill course. The Side Support Platform is a crucial feature, offering a stable base for your foot even when clipped in. This additional support is vital for maintaining control and confidence through rough terrain, high-speed corners, and challenging maneuvers. With input from pro-riders like Matti Lehikoinen and Mike Jones, these pedals offer a predictable and quick release when necessary, allowing riders to unclip swiftly in emergencies or for quick dabs. Whether you're navigating steep chutes, hitting jumps, or powering through demanding rock gardens, these pedals provide the resilience and performance required by serious gravity riders.
Pedal Installation:
Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound or grease to the threads of the 9/16” pedal axles.
Identify the right pedal (marked 'R') and thread it clockwise into the right crank arm. For the left pedal (marked 'L'), thread it counter-clockwise into the left crank arm.
Tighten securely using a pedal wrench (usually 15mm) or an Allen key (if applicable) to the manufacturer's recommended torque specification. Avoid overtightening.
Cleat Installation:
Attach the included SPD cleats to your compatible mountain bike shoes using the provided bolts.
Initially, position the cleats centrally on your shoe's sole. This provides a good starting point.
Adjust the cleat position forward/backward and rotationally to find the most comfortable and efficient pedaling position. Fine-tune this after initial rides.
Tighten cleat bolts securely once the optimal position is set.
Crank Arms: Compatible with all standard bicycle crank arms featuring 9/16” pedal threads.
Shoes: Designed for use with 2-bolt SPD (Shimano Pedaling Dynamics)-compatible mountain bike shoes.
Cleats: Fully compatible with SPD cleat systems. The pedals come with Nukeproof's Multi twist cleats which are SPD compatible.
Cleaning: After rides, especially in muddy or dusty conditions, clean the pedals with water and a soft brush to remove dirt and debris from the mechanism and body. Avoid aiming high-pressure washers directly at the bearing seals.
Inspection: Regularly inspect the pedal body for any signs of damage or wear. Check for any play in the axle rotation and ensure all bolts (especially cleat bolts on your shoes) are securely tightened.
Lubrication: While the sealed bearings are designed for low maintenance, if excessive play develops or grinding sounds occur, the axle system (2 x DU bushings & 4 x sealed cartridge bearings) can be serviced by a qualified bike mechanic to regrease or replace worn components.
Cleat Maintenance: Keep your cleats clean and replace them when they show significant wear. Worn cleats can lead to inconsistent engagement and release, and may eventually affect pedal performance.
