AdBlue's role is to reduce the harmful nitrogen oxide emissions produced by diesel engines. In fact, AdBlue has been shown to reduce these emissions by up to 90 percent. As exhaust gases pass from the diesel particulate filter into the catalytic converter, AdBlue is sprayed into the system. The ammonia in the exhaust gases reacts with the urea in the AdBlue, converting it to harmless nitrogen and water vapour. In addition to the emissions benefits, AdBlue has been shown to improve fuel consumption by 2-6%.
