Shade-tolerant, easy and reliable. Grown from asparagus fern seeds, this tender perennial makes fern-like fronds that trail or gently mound, adding movement and contrast to containers. A standout foliage plant for bright, indirect light, it softens shelves, sills and patio pots. Once established its low-maintenance: keep evenly moist, feed in the growing season and protect from frost. Ideal as a houseplant or in outdoor pots, for long-lasting, architectural greenery that pairs with colourful blooms. Unwins Houseplant Asparagus Fern Seeds are part of the NEW Unwins indoor plant seeds range. The asparagus fern is an easy to maintain houseplant that is versatile for indoor and outdoor pots. Graceful, feathery foliage adds a soft touch to any indoor space. Easy to grow and care for, this houseplant thrives in bright, indirect light and well-drained soil. Sow all year round. Pretty green foliage. Sow: January to December. Sowing: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours before sowing. Fill a tray with Westland Seed & Cutting Compost, firming gently with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Scatter seeds thinly and cover with 5 mm of compost. Place in a propagator at 20–25 °C, or cover the tray with cling film and leave in a warm room. Growing On: When shoots appear, remove the cling film. Keep seedlings in a bright location, shaded from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of Westland Houseplant Potting Mix, or singly into small pots. Maintain a minimum temperature of 12 °C. Advice: After germination, avoid overhead watering. Water at the base of the plants to keep foliage dry and reduce the risk of disease.
