Its late-blooming cherry blossoms help avoid late spring frosts, with fruits ready for harvest around July. This variety is ideal for cooking, perfect for making jams, jellies, cherry cobblers, stewed fruits, or cherry pies. The cherries can also be used for basting sauces or frozen for later use. The tree has a compact, spreading habit with large branches and produces masses of lightly scented white flowers in spring, attracting butterflies. Fruits are typically ready for picking in late July to early August. The tree is very hardy and can withstand difficult conditions, performing well on a North-facing wall. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit. It can be grown on Colt (Semi-Vigorous) or Gisela (Semi-Dwarfing) rootstock, with mature heights varying between 4-5m and 2-4m respectively over 10 years. Both rootstocks can tolerate most soil types, including clay and light, chalky soils. The Gisela rootstock is low maintenance, flowering late to avoid frosts. For best results, plant in moist, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Please note: Images are for illustrative purposes. Deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state without leaves, or pruned back to encourage new growth.
