Magnolia 'Genie' Tree, also known as the Purple Tulip Magnolia, is a deciduous tree with green leaves. Its flowers start as black-red buds, opening to reveal a stunning maroon color. A second bloom often occurs in mid-summer. The Magnolia 'Genie' is an excellent choice for small to medium gardens due to its compact size, making it a standout specimen plant, especially against lighter backdrops. Its dramatic coloration and early blooming habit make it particularly attractive. The flowers are large, goblet-shaped, reaching up to 15cm (6 inches) in diameter. For optimal growth, plant in full sun with moist, well-drained, acidic soil, and avoid windy sites and frost pockets. This Magnolia variety was developed over 15 years using parent lines from Magnolia soulangeana and Magnolia liliiflora.
