Reaching 0.1–0.5 m tall, it is ideal for beds, borders, rock gardens, containers and courtyard planting. Plant in rich, fertile, well-drained soil with an acid to neutral pH in full sun or part shade; sow or plant September to November. Low-maintenance and generally no pruning is required, though watch for slug damage. Hardy to H4 (-10 to -5°C). Hardy perennial. Produces mauve flowers in summer. Ideal for beds, borders or courtyard gardens. Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' is an evergreen, hardy perennial, grown in tufts and producing leathery, narrow leaves with clusters of small, bell-shaped flowers. In summer, the flowers are a mix between white and mauve, to be followed by glossy, black berries. It is ideal for planting in flower beds or borders, courtyard gardens, rock gardens and containers. Generally, no pruning will be required, although do watch out for the slugs as 'Nigrescens' may be vulnerable to attack. Can be planted in a rich, fertile and well-drained soil.
