The Trachycarpus Fortunei, also known as the Windmill Palm or Chusan Palm, is a striking evergreen palm that develops into a small tree with a robust, fibre-covered trunk. Its crown boasts a magnificent terminal tuft of deeply divided, vibrant green, fan-shaped leaves. This slow-growing variety adds a touch of the exotic to any garden, reaching a mature height of up to 10m with a spread of approximately 1.5m at a growth rate of around 10cm per year. It is one of the hardiest palm trees, easily surviving colder conditions than -10ºC, making it ideal for the British climate. The palm produces wonderful shadows on the patio or lawn when mature, serving as a brilliant centrepiece and bringing an exciting feel of the tropics to your garden. It is suitable for planting directly into the ground in a warm, sunny spot or for a large patio pot, as it is compact and slow-growing. This means you can enjoy it regardless of garden size, and take it with you if you move. Winner of a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, this plant has been trialled and tested for its suitability in UK gardens. Supplied as an established potted plant, approximately 60-80cm tall (including pot).
