Compact Cavolo Nero variety Harvest from autumn through winter RHS Award of Garden Merit Rich in v...Compact Cavolo Nero variety Harvest from autumn through winter RHS Award of Garden Merit Rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants Kale Yurok is a compact Cavolo Nero (black kale) variety producing a high yield of crinkled dark blue-green leaves with good flavour. The leaves can be harvested from early autumn right through to late winter. This highly productive variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Sow indoors Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth 10-15°C (50-60°F) and keep moist. Grow on When large enough to handle transplant seedlings 5cm (2in) apart to trays of potting compost. Gradually accustom them to conditions outside for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their cropping positions 60cm (24in) apart during summer. Sow indoors Sow seeds thinly in a shallow, pre-watered row. Lightly cover with a little soil. Keep soil moist until seedlings are established. Transplant When the seedlings have produced about four true leaves, transplant them to their cropping positions, allowing 60cm (24in) each way between plants. Firm them in and keep them watered well in dry spells. Use netting to prevent damage from Cabbage White Butterfly. Compact Cavolo Nero (black kale) variety Brassica oleracea var. sabellica 'Yurok' producing a high yield of crinkled dark blue-green leaves with good flavour. Harvest from October through February. Sow indoors in moist seed compost at 10-15°C (50-60°F), transplant seedlings after hardening off to 60cm (24in) spacing; start seedlings 5cm (2in) apart in trays. Keep soil moist until established, water in dry spells and use netting to prevent Cabbage White Butterfly damage. Pack contains approximately 20 seeds; plants reach about 750 mm and are H4 hardy.
