Its broad, strap-like leaves feature creamy-yellow variegation with gold borders, creating a striking display even before flowering. From July to August, globes of violet blooms rise above the foliage, producing a vibrant focal point for containers, borders, or patios. This low-maintenance plant provides long-lasting visual interest with minimal effort. Plant in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position. For container growth, use soil-based compost and ensure regular watering and feeding throughout the growing season. Leave faded flower stems intact to enjoy architectural seed heads during autumn. Cut back blackened stems after the first frost. Protect outdoor plants from severe winter weather with a dry mulch of bark chips or straw. Container-grown plants can be moved to a frost-free position over winter. Divide clumps in spring when overcrowded to maintain vigour.
