Prunus Royal Flame is a very new decorative cherry selection that mesmerizes with abundant, pure white fragrant flowers in spring. It is an upright tree with a pyramidal well-branched crown. Over time, the crown expands and the lower branches become widely spread. Its picturesque funnel-shaped growth takes it to a height of approximately 3-5 m and up to 2.5 m in width. The fiery colours of the leaves of this small deciduous cherry tree are a sensation. The scented flowers are small white in the bud contrasting brilliantly with new emerging copper-bronze foliage in early spring. Depending on the weather, flowering occurs between mid-March and mid-April, before the leaves emerge. The young leaves are copper but mature to attractive bright green in summer. Later in autumn, the leaves get a beautiful, strikingly intense red-orange colour with yellow hues. Prunus Royal Flame has more intense colours than its close cousins. It is an undemanding tree with low maintenance and average watering requirements. It tolerates all normal garden soils but loves fresh to moist, nutrient-rich ones. It prefers sunny exposure, where it can really get a chance to show off with its flowers. When planting, mix your garden soil with 50% potting soil. The tree is not sensitive to diseases and very hardy even in extreme winter. Flowering cherries looks amazing with their spring blossoms. Royal Flame is suitable in massif, isolated or loose hedges. Recommended for gardens and as a street tree with impressive flowering and leaves.
