The deciduous shrub morphs from bright pink in Spring through purple-red and settles on a fiery orange-red hue before the leaves fall for Winter. Small red insignificant flowers often appear on mature plants in Spring and are followed by winged seed pods. Its compact habit makes this variety of Acer ideal for growing in pots, patios or small gardens. Hime-Shojo prefers full sun or partial shade and to be sheltered from strong winds. Grow in clay, loamy or sandy soil and ensure the soil can drain well. If necessary, add drainage holes to pots to help prevent root rot. Acer trees are generally low maintenance and don’t demand much attention to thrive.
