This guide is for mechanics, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone needing to secure nuts and bolts against vibration. Permatex Threadlocker Blue provides a reliable medium-strength bond that prevents loosening and protects threads from corrosion, eliminating the need for separate locking hardware. A potential caveat is its medium strength, which may not be suitable for extremely high-vibration or load-bearing applications where a higher strength is required.

Permatex Blue is a medium-strength threadlocker, designed for general-purpose use and easy disassembly. Permatex Red is a high-strength threadlocker, suitable for permanent assemblies that require significant force to disassemble.
Permatex Threadlocker Blue is primarily designed for metal threads. It is not recommended for use on plastics, as it may degrade or damage the plastic material.
A fixture cure (handling strength) is typically achieved in about 30 minutes, with a full cure taking up to 24 hours at room temperature (72°F/22°C).
Permatex Threadlocker Blue is effective in service temperatures ranging from -65°F to 300°F (-54°C to 150°C).
For most applications with clean, normal-sized (M6 to M20) metal parts, an activator is not required. An activator may be necessary for large gaps, very smooth surfaces, or to speed up curing at lower temperatures.
Apply a continuous bead of the threadlocker to the leading threads of the bolt. The amount needed depends on the size of the fastener; a few drops are usually sufficient for smaller bolts.
Ensure surfaces are clean and free of oil or grease. Verify that the parts being joined are not made of inactive metals like stainless steel or cadmium plating, which may require an activator. Ensure adequate air is present for curing.
Apply heat to the assembly (approx. 400°F/204°C) to break the bond, then use hand tools for disassembly. For stubborn parts, repeat heating and use a penetrating oil.
The product may be nearing the end of its shelf life or has been exposed to air. Ensure the cap is sealed tightly after each use. If significantly degraded, replace the product.
Setup:
Compatibility:
This threadlocker is compatible with most metal threaded fasteners within the specified size range (1/4" to 3/4" or 6mm to 20mm). It is suitable for use on steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and other common metals. Avoid use on plastics or non-metal components unless specifically tested and approved.
Care:
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use to prevent premature curing. Ensure the nozzle is clean after use.
