Allium Ambassador boasts tiny star-shaped blooms in giant flowerheads, each up to 18cm in diameter. These neatly spherical umbels of flowers are a vibrant shade of deep purple and bloom on strong upright stems for weeks on end, reaching an eventual height of up to 1.2m. Blooming from May to June, they attract bees and butterflies to the garden. Even after fading, the spent flowerheads provide textural interest with attractive Allium seeds. These 28+ Allium bulbs are available from early September to mid-December and are relatively easy to grow. Plant in a sunny spot with free-draining soil, digging a hole about 3 times the depth of the bulb, with the pointed side facing up. Water well after planting and space bulbs at least twice their size apart. The ideal planting time is mid to late autumn. Ambassador is a low-maintenance, fully hardy perennial suitable for containers, beds, and borders. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and allow plants to die back naturally before cutting them back for new growth the following spring.
