It’s easy to see how this variety got the name Metamorphosa as it passes through so many hues throughout the year. The deciduous shrub sprouts yellow palmate leaves that are edged with pink in Spring. These morph to a bright green with white edges as the season goes on before turning orange-red and finally red-violet as Autumn descends. Its compact size makes this variety of Acer ideal for growing in pots, patios or small gardens. Japanese Maples prefers full sun or partial shade and to be sheltered from strong winds. They grow well in soil that is chalky, loamy, clay or sandy, and you should ensure the soil is kept moist but well drained. If necessary, add drainage holes to pots to help prevent root rot. Acer trees are generally low maintenance and don’t demand much attention to thrive.
